Hi Parents!
It was a great full week of school in third grade! It was nice to jump into our academic schedule and start our routine. We were able to get through our place value unit and we officially started our reading workshop model.
Here is our week in review:
Monday: Media Center Orientation (Yay! Now we can check out books on a regular basis!)
Tuesday: Target Day (Target students report to Mrs. Walker's room)
Wednesday:
Thursday: I will meet with our Room Moms so you will hear from them shortly after!
Friday:
Here is what we are learning about this week:
Math: In Math we will learn how to round to the nearest 10 and 100. During Guided Math students will have a place value review or challenge center and then work on rounding skills and practice. Every Friday we will have a timed test (addition for now) and usually a post assessment on the standard/skill for the week. I plan to send home the graded assessment on Monday.
Social Studies: This past week we launched our Social Studies unit and this week will continue learning about Civics and then move into Government.
Writing: In Writing we will begin our Narrative Unit and learn how to write about small moments.
Reading: In Reading we will work with a book, Rain School. We will learn to ask questions when reading a new text, read fluently with expression, and learn to find answers to questions in a text and provide evidence. Additionally, I will continue to meet with students one on one to check their current reading level.
We will also start a new vocabulary binder and this will become a part of our daily reading workshop.
Grammar: In Grammar we will review pronouns.
What can you do at home:
*Make sure your child is reading 20 minutes each day.
*Make sure they understand the Math homework each day.
*Practice rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 while riding in the car or at dinner.
I know we will have another great week!
