Hi Parents!
Here is what we are learning this week in 3rd grade:
Math: This is a busy week in Math! We will be learning addition strategies so we can successfully add within 1,000. Each day I will introduce 1 or 2 strategies to help students solve and check addition problems. The ultimate goal is for students to feel confident using 2 of the strategies by the end of the week. We will spend 2 weeks practicing these strategies in isolation, so if it feels overwhelming, we will review a lot next week in small groups.
Reading: The students will receive their first issue of a Storyworks Junior magazine this week! I LOVE these magazines and the resources I get with each issue. Each issue is usually for a 2 month period and then the students will bring them home. I encourage you to read through the magazine with your child when it comes home and see what articles they enjoyed the most. This week we will work with the feature article, a non-fiction piece, and work on using a text to find answers to questions.
Writing: The students will begin writing their first small moment narrative piece. I know they are ready to begin writing and I am excited to see their growth this quarter!
Social Studies: This week we will wrap up our unit on being a good citizen and we will move into opportunity cost.
Grammar: In Grammar so far we have reviewed Nouns, Plural Nouns, and Pronouns. This week we will spend some time reviewing.
What you need to know for this week:
Thursday is picture day!
On Friday we will have our first Guidance lesson with Mrs. Grindstaff.
I met with our fabulous Room Moms and they will contact the class after the Tritt Room Mom Orientation on Wednesday.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Adams
