Hi Parents!
What a great few days! We all enjoyed getting to know each other and the kids loved hearing about all of the fun and learning that will take place this year in 3rd grade! I look forward to telling you all about it as well at Open House on Tuesday night. There are 2 sessions that are exactly the same: 6:30 or 7:30. This is for parents only.
The pictures above are from this week as we played a "get to know you" game, laughed as a class mate was trying to pop a balloon (everyone got a turn and it was funny every time), and we ended the week enjoying Sofia's birthday treat outside! Happy Birthday Sofia!!!!
Here is what we have in store for this week:
Math: Each day we will start our day with specials and then jump right into Math. This week I hope to establish Guided Math expectations and get the ball rolling. We will begin learning about place value. Students will review the foundation of number sense with larger numbers and ways to represent numbers. Yes, there will be math homework this week!
Science, Social Studies, and STEAM: This week we will review the Engineering Process and work together to complete our first short and sweet STEAM Challenge in our STEAM groups. Then we will launch into our Social Studies unit by understanding what Social Studies is.
Writing: In Writing we will begin our Narrative unit by reviewing what a narrative is, writing a pre-assessment so we can look at our growth in 8 weeks, and start our Parent Journal.
Reading Workshop: This week will be busy in Reading as we learn about the Reading Workshop model. I will be pulling students one on one during the reading block to assess their current reading level. We will also take the Reading Inventory this week to get an updated Lexile Level.
Grammar: In Grammar we will begin our interactive journal starting with Nouns and Plural Nouns.
What you can do to help your child this week:
1: Check the folder each night for homework that is due the next day.
2: Encourage your child to bring a favorite book (or 2) to school this week since we cannot check out books until the following week. We will have some independent reading time each day this week. Each child has a "book box" and they can keep the books at school for reading all week if they want.
3: Your child will write in their planner every day (except for Friday) and bring it home. Try to get in a habit of reading over it with them each afternoon.
Hope to see you all on Tuesday evening!
All the Best,
Mrs. Adams
