Can you believe this is the last week before Thanksgiving Break? Time is flying by...
Here is what we have going on this week:
Math: In Math we will learn to calculate area. Students will practice with games like Area War and Area Tic Tac Toe. We will have a multiplication review center this week and a timed test on Friday. This will be the last timed test with facts to 9. After break, the timed test will be on facts to 12. Keep practicing at home!!! The nights I do not send home a formal homework sheet are meant to give students time to practice facts at home.
Writing: This week in Writing students will begin conducting research on their chosen topic.
Reading: In Reading we will continue with Non-Fiction Texts and will look into Non-Fiction Conventions. I will also integrate some of our Social Studies Explorers into our Reading block.
Social Studies: We will finish learning about Hernando De Soto and we will have a guest speaker on this topic on Wednesday. We will also learn about Christopher Columbus.
Science: In Science we will learn about erosion and weathering. When we return from break we will begin our unit on Fossils.
STEM: This week students completed their challenge on building an Earth Dwelling. They had them tested with wind and water to see if they would change. Next, we will talk about how to improve them.
Grammar: We have worked with action and helping verbs and this week we will add in linking verbs.
Week in Review:
Tuesday: Target Day
Wednesday: DeSoto presentation/speaker
Friday: Thanksgiving Fun
There is no homework in the month of December. However, this week I will send home a Literacy Project that is due in December. Students will have 3 weeks in November to work on it.
Congrats to our top multiplication fact winners who enjoyed lunch in the classroom on Friday! (see picture below) Also, there is a picture of me testing an Earth Dwelling.
